- Proper storage isn’t just an afterthought—it’s the backbone of long-term preservation. For hot patina bronze, aim for a stable indoor climate: temperature between 18°C and 24°C, relative humidity held steady at 40–50%. Fluctuations are the real enemy here, so avoid basements, attics, or any spot prone to dampness or drastic shifts.
- Always handle your bronze with clean cotton gloves. Bare skin leaves behind oils and salts that, over time, etch into the patina and dull its character. And just as important—never use oily wrapping paper or stained cardboard boxes for storage; those residues can seep into the surface and cause stubborn stains.
- Routine dusting is simple but deserves care. Use a soft, lint-free cotton cloth and wipe gently. For intricate crevices, fine details, or fragile protrusions, switch to a soft-bristle brush, a low-suction handheld vacuum, or a gentle puff of compressed air. Patience beats pressure every time.
- Physical protection matters just as much. Never stack sculptures, and keep enough distance between pieces so they don’t knock against one another. Fragile elements—like extended limbs, delicate drapery, or fine tooling—call for extra mindfulness during moving or cleaning.
- After extended display, especially through humid or rainy seasons, you might notice dull patches or a faint greyish haze forming on the surface. This is normal, not damage. A light, back-and-forth rub with a fine cotton cloth or soft brush usually buffs it right out—and it does double duty, refreshing the protective wax layer and restoring a subtle, even sheen. For an added layer of defense, follow up with a metal polish protective spray. It reinforces the surface barrier and helps the patina hold its depth and richness for years to come.
